Diana Mena, LICSW, EMMHS

I am a first generation Nicaraguan American, bilingual (Spanish/English) and bicultural, WOC, licensed social worker and clinical social justice activist. I completed a Bachelors in Sociology from Seattle University and a Masters in Social Work from the University of Washington. I was trained at Harborview Center for Sexual Assault and Traumatic Stress.

I have over 12 years experience working with nonprofit agencies and community mental health clinics providing case management and therapy for low income, marginalized populations, and communities of color. I am an Ethnic Minority Mental Health Specialist for the Hispanic Population (EMMHS).

I started my private practice in 2016. As a politicized healer I am in a continual process of decolonizing myself, mental health and therapy for our collective liberation.

Esperanza Counseling & Consulting PLLC is based on the traditional land of the Coast Salish and Duwamish people past and present. Learn more about the land you occupy and consider paying rent to the Duwamish Tribe.

I am a member of The Well on Beacon a collaborative health project.

In 2018, I was honored with the Washington State Society’s Clinical Social Worker Award for my work incorporating social justice into clinical practice.

Through this work, I have witnessed the painful and heart wrenching experiences and secrets that wound us across the generations, but also the incredible strength that we carry inside ourselves and in our genes and DNA. I believe in the resiliency of the human spirit, in our capacity to actively resist in spite of trauma, hardship, oppression and struggle, and our ability to heal ourselves so that we can sustain the beloved community.

Recibí mi entrenamiento en Harborview Center for Sexual Assault and Traumatic Stress.
